Oscar De La Hoya hinted that he will fight Ricky Hatton after his bout with Manny Pacquiao on December 6.
De La Hoya previously stated that he would not fight after 2008, but due to Floyd Mayweather Jr pulling out of their scheduled rematch in September, he will not have the three fights he wanted in the calendar year.
The six-weight world champion, who was in attendance when Hatton beat Juan Lazcano at the City of Manchester Stadium in May, has previously stated that weight difference would make it impossible to fight Hatton.
Now De La Hoya, who looked lacklustre in his only showing this year against Stevie Forbes, and Golden Boy Promotions CEO are hinting that they will look to meet Hatton next Spring.
?We?ll see after the fight on how I feel if this fight will be my last fight or not,? De La Hoya said. “Let?s just say my foot got caught in the door.”
There has been talk that Hatton would meet Pacquiao at Wembley Stadium if he beats Paulie Malignaggi in November but Schaefer said it would be a dream for the Golden Boy to be the Hitman’s opponent in an outdoor’s venue if he beats Pacquiao.
“A matchup between the two most popular fighters on the planet would be unbelievable, and when I think about places, of course Wembley Stadium comes to mind or in Mexico the famous Azteca Stadium,” Schaefer told Boxing Scene.
“These are the dream matchups which might never happen, but I think people are allowed to dream.”
