Gorres yearns to steal part of the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas lights when the ALA Stable prodigy battles Russian bantamweight champion Dimitri ?The Baby? Kirilov on March 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although there?s no title at stake in his scheduled 10-round brawl with the Russian warrior, the fight is for sure a defining moment for Gorres noting that it is lined up among the explosive undercards of the hotly-anticipated superbout between Filipino ring icon Manny ?The Destroyer? Pacquiao and Mexican superstar Erik ?El Terible? Morales.
Kirilov is a no-nonsense opponent for the prized ALA standout Gorres considering that the Russian once reigned as the WBC Youth super flyweight champion after he beat South African Christopher Denicker by unanimous decision on September 29, 1999 in Moscow.
The 26-year-old Kirilov, who parades a 26-2 win-loss record with 9KOs, defended his throne twice, the last via unanimous decision over Filipino journeyman Junver Halog on April 13, 2001 also in Moscow.
Kirilov fought for the WBC super flyweight title, but lost by unanimous decision to North Korea-born Japanese Masamori Tokuyama – the conqueror of former Filipino titlist Gerry Pe?alosa – on January 3 last year at the Central Gym in Osaka, Japan.
Kirilov, however, bounced back from that defeat oozing with confidence, racking up three consecutive victories capped by a win over Marcel Kasimov via unanimous decision to capture the Russian 118-pound crown on December 16 last year.
The 22-year-old Gorres, on the other hand, can?t be left behind speaking of fight credential. The ALA stalwart boasts of a shining 18-1 win-loss record packed with 10KOs.
Gorres?s only taste of defeat so far was a stunning ninth round TKO debacle to Edgar Rodrigo that cost the flashy Cebuano slugger his RP flyweight belt on June 1, 2003 at the Makati Coliseum.
Since then, Gorres piled up six straight wins, three of which via stoppage against Rommel Libradilla, Ryan Campece?o and Korean Yun Chul-Yuh. In his last fight on December 11 last year in Taguig City, Gorres was simply awesome in pounding out a lopsided unanimous decision triumph over Thai Chaiyong Sakkreerin.
