Bob Arum only has good vibrations for today?s crucial meeting with Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) regarding a proposed mouth-watering Dec. 6 fight between Oscar de La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao.
“Yes,” Arum said when asked if he feels confident that Top Rank and GBP will succeed in forging a deal Wednesday (Thursday in Manila). “I have heard what Manny has to say (about making a De La Hoya fight).”
“I have nothing to say right now and hopefully we get it done,” said Arum, who meets GBP Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer in Los Angeles.
De La Hoya has given Schaefer the authority to negotiate with Arum to do a Pacquiao fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Last week, Arum met with Pacquiao in Las Vegas and the 76-year-old Hall of Fame promoter already knows what to do.
There will be lots of matters that will be discussed aside from the delicate issue of purse since Pacquiao has made it public that he is asking for a paycheck that is unheard of in this part of the world.
Arum, meanwhile, disclosed that current International Boxing federation flyweight supremo Nonito Donaire, who signed with Top Rank last June, will either fight on Oct. 25 or Nov. 15 in Macau or Nov. 1 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Arum arrived in the US late Tuesday night from Macau where he said he struck a deal with The Venetian Hotel to do a fight there.
“Macau is unbelievable and (the arena at) The Venetian is beautiful and world-class,” said Arum, who watched a friendly basketball game between the US and Lithuania during his brief visit in the former Portuguese colony.
“I will be doing a fight there but not on Oct. 11,” said Arum, dispelling reports that Donaire will showcase his wares there on that date.
