It seems Freddie Roach has gotten into the nerves of Oscar dela Hoya that boxing?s Golden Boy wants no one else but Manny Pacquiao for his farewell fight in December.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaeffer told ESPN.com that Dela Hoya didn?t like the comments made by Roach that the sport?s biggest draw ?can?t pull the trigger anymore.?
?Oscar really wants to do the fight. You know Oscar. He honestly feels that Freddie and Pacquiao have been disrespectful. It?s [expletive] for Freddie to say that Oscar can?t pull the trigger anymore.
?Oscar will show them how he can pull the trigger. Pacquiao is being Freddie Roach?s puppet and Oscar wants to teach a lesson to them,? said Schaeffer.
The Golden Boy executive will sit down with Pacquiao?s promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) to exchange proposals and see if the fight could happen.
The world will be waiting.
?Manny is the best fighter in the world, pound for pound, but Manny will see how Oscar pulls the trigger in the ring and Freddie can sit in the corner and watch Oscar hit him,? said Schaeffer.
?When Oscar read Freddie?s comments, he was like, ?What the [expletive] is that?? He feels challenged now,? he said. ?Oscar gave me clear instructions to make the fight with Pacquiao, not to kill the fight.?
Pacquiao is in the US with his family and has sat down with Arum to let the ageless promoter know what he likes as far as the Dela Hoya fight, which could take place on Dec. 6 at MGM, is concerned.
Reports said Pacquio has been offered $10 million plus a share of the pay-per-view sales but the Filipino camp wants more, maybe $15 million to $20 million in guaranteed purse.
Pacquiao wants the fight set at 147, and Roach called for the weigh-in to be held on the day of the fight. They are also calling for a $750,000 fine for every pound if Dela Hoya goes over 147.
There are reports that Golden Boy might offer Pacquiao $20 million with no more shares on PPV, or $15 million with a share on the PPV. It also said Dela Hoya is cool with a ?fight-night? weigh-in.
But everything remains unofficial until they are tackled by Arum and Schaeffer.
?I am going to meet with him and if we can work out a deal that is acceptable to Bob, Manny and to us, then we will get the fight done,? Schaefer said.
?Bob and me have a pretty good track record of making big fights. I will sit down with Bob on Wednesday and I think we will know in a half-hour if we have a deal or not.
?There are some issues we need to talk about. There are some deal points, which need to be discussed, such as the split of the revenues, the weight. I think the gloves, maybe,? he added.
