MARCO Antonio Barrera sounded melodious in giving Manny Pacquiao an advice regarding the Filipino champion?s immediate plans.
Interviewed by Philippine Star?s Quinito Henson, widely recognized as the dean of Philippine Sports, Barrera wanted Pacquiao to know his opposition about Bob Arum?s plan to pit the Filipino warrior against either Humberto Soto or Edwin Valero.
?If I?m on Manny?s side, I?ll tell him to wait until next year for Hatton,? Barrera was quoted as saying in that interview with Mr. Henson.
Pacman fans, all eager to see their boxing idol inside the ring against the British Hitman, got titillated by that sweet suggestion by Barrera for his two-time conqueror.
But wait, there seems to be a catch in Barrera?s suggestion.
Barrera, in the same interview said he is still not done as a fighter and is actually ready to return to the ring against a worthy opponent that includes a possible third fight with Pacquiao.
It seems hard to comprehend that Barrera is concerned with Pacquiao?s future when the Mexican still thinks he still has a career inside the ring.
Remember a boxer, once inside the squared circle, not only aims to maim his opponent but to prove he is the best in the sport.
So Barrera wants to continue to fight then advises Pacquiao to remain idle the rest of year?
The Baby-Faced Assassin really looked cute with that statement.
**************
Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Edwin Valero, Humberto Soto, George W. Bush, bring them on!
With the rate his career is going, Manny Pacquiao will be hard to beat in his newest bailiwick, the lightweight territory, and even the unchartered light welterweight.
But all these talks, blogs and what have you about Pacquiao fighting this and that, here, there and everywhere is only creating puzzlement among Pacman fans.
This is where many revere Da Ilocano King Hermie Rivera, much-maligned by bashers for being outspoken but gets nothing from those same dim-witts when he gets it right.
?Don?t believe a bout will happen unless both fighters climb the ring,? was what Senor Hermie once said in a radio interview when asked about indications that a bout is sealed.
Bob Arum gave everyone the real situation during an interview with ?Sports Chat? that he is talking with the Valero people for a fight with Pacquiao. So what?s wrong if Arum shifts to Team Soto?
Bottomline is only Arum and the Pacman decide on who to fight. If it?s not coming from them, everything you read is, at best, an opinion.
While others claim exclusivity or whatever to their supposed breaking items in this internet circus, It won?t hurt if we all wait for contracts to be signed and see four-time king Manny and whoever his opponent will be climb the ring before the end of the year.
This way it will keep your sanity intact.
