Singapore---Five year old Jodiel Chloe Banawa of Alicia, Isabela topped the Girls Under 6 in the Rapid competition of the 24th ASEAN + Age-Group Chess Championships 2026 held at the Our Tampines Hub in Singapore on Saturday, August 15,2026.

Banawa finished the rapid chess competition with 6.0 points on account of 6 wins and one loss, the same output of compatriot Elisha Romarate of Zamboanga del Norte.

Thus, Banawa and Romarate both won the rapid gold medal in the individual competition.

Banawa and Romarate teamed up with Rien Euri Villa of San Mateo, Rizal to capture the Rapid gold medal in the team competition.

Banawa, a Grade 5 student of San Juan Elementary School in Alicia, Isabela will see action once again in the Blitz competition.

Banawa is aiming to be the most bemedaled athlete.

"Champ in Rapid (Jodiel Chloe Banawa). Congrats to the teammate Isay (Elisha Romarate) also for getting gold tying for first," said proud father International Master Joel Banawa.

"Another gold. 1st on tie breaks in rapid after another disastrous queen blunder in round 4," he added.
