Singapore----Filipino Jodiel Chloe Banawa, a five year old chess prodigy from Alicia Isabela finished first place in the Girls Under-6 Category of the Standard competition of the 24th ASEAN + Age - Group Chess Championships 2026 held at the Our Tampines Hub in Singapore on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Banawa, a elementary pupil of San Juan Elementary School in Alicia, Isabela defeated compatriot Rien Euri Villa in the last round to finish the 7 rounds competition with 6.0 points on account of six wins and one loss to clinch the title and pocket the gold medal.

Banawa teamed up with Elisha Romarate (5.5 points) and Villa (1.0 point) to receive the team Gold medal.

International Master Joel Banawa had something to say to her daughter.

" All the hard work finally paid off, said proud father IM Joel.

Jodiel Chloe will be seen in action again in the Rapid and Blitz competition.
