It has been learned that former Cuban world champion David Morrell (12-2, 9 KOs), 28, may be joining Dream Bigg Management, training with Robert Valle in Orlando, Florida.
Morrell is coming off a tenth-round technical knockout loss to England's Zak Chelli on May 9th at the Manchester Arena. Chelli, a veteran who stepped in as a substitute, knocked out Morrell, who had underestimated the former British champion from the weigh-in and ultimately paid dearly for his mistake when the referee stopped the fight with only seconds remaining.
Now Morrell is leaving Las Vegas and his Cuban trainer, Ismael Salas, for Orlando, where there is a stronger Cuban presence and more familiarity, but where he will be expected to be more dedicated and hard-working.
The former WBA interim world champion at 168 pounds and now at 175 pounds remains among the top-ranked fighters. He needs to recover and is apparently looking for better strategies and training.
