For more than a decade, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao II has felt inevitable — just never executable.
Demand was never the issue. Infrastructure was.
On September 19 in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) and Manny Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) will meet in a fully sanctioned professional rematch at Sphere.
The Anticipation and Build-Up World Boxing News has reported for years on the potential for a second fight, but since October, WBN noted serious discussions were underway.
When conversations reignited in 2025, the tone was different from previous years.
At the center of the coordination is Jas Mathur, CEO of Pacquiao Promotions and the event’s executive producer, who explained to WBN how the rematch moved from constant speculation to a structured reality.
“Ever since Manny and Floyd last stepped into the ring, the conversation about a rematch has never truly stopped,” Mathur told World Boxing News in an exclusive interview.
“That bout became the highest-grossing pay-per-view event in boxing history, and the demand for a second chapter began the moment the first fight concluded.”
For years, demand alone was not enough.
“The interest never diminished,” Mathur continued. “When you’re talking about two of the greatest fighters of all time and that level of unfinished business, the momentum doesn’t fade — it grows. It simply requires the right timing and the right group of people to bring it to fruition.”
The Structural Shift The turning point, he said, came when production and platform converged.
“A pivotal moment came when my good friend and partner, Deon Taylor, along with the team at Hidden Empire Film Group, brought the opportunity to Ian Orefice at EverWonder, who has the relationship with Netflix.”
“That alignment helped bring all the critical pieces together.”
From there, the event shifted from discussion to collaboration.
“EverWonder Studio, Hidden Empire Film Group, Limitless X Holdings, key members of both Floyd and Manny’s teams, and the leadership at Netflix all worked in lockstep to make this happen.”
For Mathur, the key was coordination rather than star power.
“This was never about any one individual — it was a collective effort.”
“We came together with a shared vision to create something truly historic. I’m honored to be involved and proud of what we’ve built as a team. Together, we’re positioning this to become one of the most watched matches of all time.”

The Platform Shift The 2015 fight was constructed around the traditional pay-per-view model. It generated 4.6 million buys and a $72 million live gate at the MGM Grand Garden Arena — numbers that still represent the commercial peak of the PPV era.
The rematch operates under a different model entirely.
Instead of a purchase-driven broadcast, it will be delivered through a subscription platform with a built-in global audience. That changes access, pricing mechanics, and potential scale in one move.
This is not merely a second fight. It is a structural pivot in distribution.
The Sphere Variable September 19 will also mark the first professional boxing event staged at Sphere in Las Vegas.
Unlike a conventional arena, Sphere’s immersive display technology becomes part of the event design itself.
The first fight shattered financial benchmarks inside a traditional venue. The sequel is being engineered differently from the outset.

From Demand to Execution For more than a decade, the rematch was framed as unfinished business.
Mathur’s explanation suggests something more practical: demand was constant, but infrastructure was missing.
Once production partners, platform distribution, fighter agreements, and promotional cooperation aligned, the event moved from possibility to program.
