EXCLUSIVE | Two key figures will decide the proposed December rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand following their hotly debated draw last month.
On July 19, 2025, the Filipino legend and the WBC welterweight champion went the full twelve rounds in Las Vegas, with the judges unable to separate them on the scorecards.
The result left fans split, with many calling for an immediate sequel before the end of the year. As WBN reported recently, Pacquiao is eyeing a December return to his favorite arena and currently sits as the number one ranked welterweight with the World Boxing Council.
Speaking exclusively to World Boxing News, Barrios’ trainer Bob Santos revealed the decision-making power now lies outside his camp.
“That’s really going to be up to Al Haymon and Luis DeCubas Jr.,” Santos told World Boxing News. “I have no clue at this point, but it’s definitely up to Al and Luis what they’re gonna do.”
Pacquiao’s Reflection While speculation over the rematch intensifies, Pacquiao took time this week to reflect on his unprecedented achievements in the sport.
Posting to his official X account, the 46-year-old former eight-weight world champion shared a heartfelt message alongside an image from his career.
“I look at this picture (of me with all my titles) and I’m reminded of the long journey God has allowed me to take. From flyweight to super welterweight, eight divisions, eight mountains to climb.
“Every fight was not just about winning a belt, but about testing myself, learning, and growing. To all the great champions and warriors I had the honor to share the ring with. Without you, this would not be possible.
“And above all, I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me the strength, power, and heart to keep going, even when the road was difficult.
“This is not just my story. It’s ours.”
