LAS VEGAS ? David Diaz must have felt like he was run over by a truck.
With cuts and bruises all over his face, the 32-year-old deposed champion opened up his post-fight speech by saying, ?Did anybody get the number off that truck??
The truck he was referring to probably was Manny Pacquiao who peppered him with punches from all angles en route to a sensational ninth-round knockout win at the Events Center of Mandalay Bay.
Diaz did not stay too long for the press conference as he was brought to the hospital for the needed stitches in his cuts ? one on the bridge of his nose and a bigger one just above his right eye.
Before he got off the ring, the doctors examined him and found ?no damage? at all.
According to the data released by CompuBox, Diaz absorbed so many punches any other fighter would have failed to survive.
Pacquiao threw a total of 788 punches and connecting on 230 of them. He threw 298 jabs, hitting Diaz with 50, and unleashed 490 power punches, finding their target 180 times.
Diaz, for his part, threw a total of 463 punches, landing only 90 for a poor 19 percent batting average. He threw 144 jabs, hitting Pacquiao only 31 times, and let loose 319 power punches, connecting 59 times.
Diaz managed a few laughs when he faced the media, and said he had fun going up against a fighter like Pacquiao. He got $800,000 for the fight for his biggest paycheck ever.
?It was all in good fun. We had fun tonight. We had a great time even though I lost. Today we lose, tomorrow we win,? he said.
Then he added, as he was about to get off the stage, that, ?It?s time to party.?
