Pacquiao: Added pounds means more punching power

Manny Pacquiao was in a good mood on Thursday, a day before the official weigh-in championship fight against World Boxing Council lightweight king David Diaz.

Pacquiao enjoyed a hearty breakfast together with his team and pet dog whom he also fed as he ate.

Pacquiao had a plate of rice with “adobo,” fish “sinigang” and fruits. He also took his full dose of vitamins.

The challenger was stress-free, not having to go through major dieting for the higher 135-pound limit of the lightweight division.

Last March, he had to hold food intake to make 130 for the title fight against WBC super featherweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez. That is not the case this time.

Pacquiao said he is comfortable in the heavier weight class, adding that the few extra pounds on him will give even more power to his punch and do more damage.

He, however, said that he has to be on full alert for his Diaz, a southpaw like him.

Diaz won the 135-pound championship in 2006.

In 2007, he beat Erik Morales to defend his title.

Diaz said he is in even better shape to face the challenger to his belt on Saturday, January 28, at the Mandalay Bay Hotel Resort and Casino.

Boxing experts are one in saying the Filipino is the heavy favorite but Diaz will not be an easy opponent.

Fellow Filipino world champion Nonito Donaire, meanwhile, has no doubt Pacquiao is the superior fighter. But he maintains a lot of respect for the Mexican champioin.
