Tokyo Dome, Saudi Arabia among potential Inoue bout venues

YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) — Naoya Inoue, the second man in boxing history to be a two-weight undisputed champion, may fight at larger venues both in Japan and overseas in the future, the head of his gym revealed Wednesday.

“We’re thinking about Saudi Arabia…though things haven’t been decided yet,” Hideyuki Ohashi told a press conference in Yokohama, adding Tokyo Dome is also “an option.”

Inoue and Ohashi met the press in Yokohama a day after the super bantamweight boxer joined American Terence Crawford as a four-belt undisputed champion in two weight divisions with a 10th-round knockout of Marlon Tapales of the Philippines.

Inoue, nicknamed, “Monster,” fought his last three bouts at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena, which seats about 15,000 people. Tokyo Dome accommodates more than 40,000.

Asked to comment on fighting in front of larger crowds, Inoue said, “I’ll be even more motivated. If I can do that, I look forward to it.”
