Manny Pacquiao wants to fight Ricky Hatton once he’s finished with David Diaz.
The Fillipino icon steps up to lightweight on June 28 to face Diaz for the WBC title at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
But after that the ‘Pacman’ says a showdown with Manchester’s finest would suit him just fine.
He told Ring magazine: “After Diaz, I want to fight Ricky Hatton. That will be a good fight.”
Pacquiao, who edged a thrilling rematch Juan Manuel Marquez at super-featherweight in his most recent fight, says moving up through the weights won’t hold any fears for him.
Hatton plies his trade at light-welterweight (140lbs), while there’s talk Pacquiao could move up even further to take on Oscar De La Hoya in the future.
He said: “I’m 150lbs right now. My sparring partners are always 140 to 150lbs. It’s not problem for me. And I’m not getting any younger. So why not?”
Pacquiao weighed 145lbs on the night of his victory over Marquez, and a showdown with Hatton would pit two of the world’s most exciting and popular fighters in a mouthwatering showdown.
But Hatton of course is being lined up for a Stateside confrontation with ‘Magic Man’ Paulie Malignaggi.
Meanwhile some reports claim the Hitman could yet get a dream shot at ‘Golden Boy’ De La Hoya, following the retirement of Floyd Mayweather Jr on Friday.
De La Hoya had been scheduled to face the P4P king in a rematch on September 20, and plans for his next bout are now expected to be announced later this week.
