ELEVEN outstanding athletes and sports personalities led by Ring Magazine People’s Featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao were honored by the city government for their outstanding fete in 2004.
Pacquiao was given P30,000 cash for his 4th round demolition of Thai boxer Fahsan 3K Battery while his brother Bobby Pacquiao also received P10,000 for successfully defending his Philippine lightweight crown.
Also given recognition was 12-year-old swimmer for the Notre Dame of Dadiangas College Integrated Basic Education Department Nikita Dacera who bagged three golds, a silver and a bronze in the 4th BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games and 28th Southeast Asean Age group competition.
For her efforts, Dacera received a whopping P60,000 bonanza from the city government.
Also cited was taekwondo jin and instructor Robert Danao who won the gold in an international tournament held in the United States.
Others who were honored were Francis Villagante (swimming), karateka Ireneo Toribio, siblings Manuel, Mark and Marinella Alovera and Stpehanie Palacios (dancseports) and Elias bangiran (chess).
Vice Mayor Florentina Congson and city sports coordinator Clement Asencio thanked the athletes for bringing honors to the city through their sports disciplines.
Acharon also goaded other athletes to excel in their sports discipline and put the city in the sporting map.
