Brian McIntyre expressed his gratitude to both his fellow inmates and the prison staff for their kindness following his release from prison after a five-week period. On Sunday, September 3rd, “BoMac,” who serves as the coach for undefeated welterweight champion Terence Crawford and several other fighters, encountered a legal issue at Manchester Airport. This incident occurred just one day after he had successfully guided Chris Eubank Jr. to victory over Liam Smith at the AO Arena. The 53-year-old American was detained by armed law enforcement officers after a firearm and ammunition were discovered during a routine scan of his checked-in luggage.
In a statement released by Greater Manchester Police during that time, McIntyre was charged with offenses related to the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition without the necessary certification. Following this, on Monday, September 4th, McIntyre appeared before Stockport Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody, awaiting a forthcoming sentencing hearing.
Then, on Monday, October 9th, McIntyre pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court. After that, he was handed a 20-month sentence, which, notably, was suspended for a duration of two years. This legal development marked a significant turn of events in his case.
However, McIntyre is currently out of jail and Crawford was one of the most important individuals to give character witnesses for McIntyre. After coming out of prison, McIntyre shared pictures of him as a freeman and wrote, “Thank you HMP Birmingham Prison for your hospitality for the 5 weeks. All the guards and inmates were nice and cool, sorry I couldn’t stay longer but [due] to my outstanding legal team from the USA and London, I have to get back to work, woooorrrk tiiiimeeee!!!!!”
McIntyre revealed that his time in prison was unexpectedly nice, as the prisoners and guards didn’t give him a hard time. The coach jokingly mentioned that he couldn’t stay more than five weeks because of his legal team, who helped him get out.
