Ryan Garcia’s dad Henry has confirmed that his son will face Gervonta Davis next. The pair recently posted online that the fight is a “done deal” but there are still a few terms in the contract that need to be ironed out first.
According to Insider, a source close to Davis has confirmed that the bout is ‘fairly close’ to being signed off, with a deal that could involve a rematch clause. Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya also revealed that they are in negotiations and that he is ‘optimistic’ about the fight’s chances.
“There’s been rumours going around that Tank has said ‘done’ and then Ryan said ‘done deal’ and I wanted to clarify that,” Garcia Sr told FightHype. “What that basically means is that, yes the fight is going to happen.
“There’s still a few things that need to be ironed out, I can’t give exact dates but I can say that it’s going to happen. That’s next, we’re not here to fight Teo or Rolly, we’re here for Tank.”
Both men are among the hottest commodities in boxing with massive social media followings. Between them, they boast 50 professional victories with no losses and have been trading verbal jabs online for the last couple of years.
Their heated social media exchanges recently spilt out into a real-life physical altercation when Garcia confronted Davis at a club during a night out last month.
“I actually did see Tank in the club,” said King Ry on Instagram. “He’s a tough guy.
“He was very low-key, in his hoodie. I went up to his table and we said, ‘Yo, are we gonna make this fight happen?’ And I guess he got all offended by that.
“Got all worked up and I was like, ‘Yo, what you on about, man? Ain’t no respect here? He responds with, ‘Nah, there ain’t no respect here.’
