With less than two months to go before June 28, master trainer and coach Freddie Roach said he is looking for new sparring partners for Manny Pacquiao.
“They will all be new. I?m looking for two more and we need some good sparring partners,” Roach told radio dzSR’s “Sports Chat” program hosted by Dennis Principe.
Roach the training for the clash with David Diaz will focus on simulating the Mexican American’s moves. Diaz, like Pacquiao, is a southpaw.
Diaz will defend his WBC lightweight crown against the Filipino ring icon at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to Roach, top on his list of prospective spar mates for Pacquiao is 38-year-old Freddie Norwood, an ex-featherweight champ. Roach said Norwood defeated Juan Manuel Marquez in 1999.
Incidentally, Pacquiao also faced the Mexican in 2004 and 2008.
“He?s a very good southpaw and he now weighs 140 lb and so he is my first choice right now,” Roach said as he described Norwood.
Pacquiao is the current WBC super featherweight champion.
