Campbell Camp Sees Golden Smokescreen To Set Up Manny Pacquiao-Juan Diaz!

LOS ANGELES–Terry Trekas, co-promoter with Don King, for triple belt lightweight champion Nate Campbell wonders if Golden Boy Promotions is trying to play a shell game.

There have been continued whispers around these parts about a Campbell-Juan Manuel Marquez fight but Trekas tells Boxingconfidential.com that no specifics as far as purse money, venue or date have even been discussed between the parties.

?We can make this fight unless King gets top greedy,? a Golden Boy insider told me Friday. ?Don needs to wake up and smell the flowers and realize that Marquez is the bigger marquee name here. If Don acts reasonable, we can make this fight for October or November.?

This is where Trekas gets suspicious.

?Nate wants the fight with the proper terms and conditions,? Trkekas said. ?But it will have to take place in July or August. We?re facing a mandatory defense situation and I am thinking this may all be a Golden Boy smokescreen so that they can take Juan Diaz, should he beat Joel Casamayor, and stick him in against Manny Pacquiao while leaving us on the sidelines.

?We can?t and we won?t wait around until October or November. So let?s see if this is real or just a smokescreen for Golden Boy to thrust Baby Bull Diaz into a Pacman bout.?

Campbell, of course, hammered the then unbeaten ?Baby Bull? from pillar to post in Cancun in March to take away the WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight straps away from the young Houstonian,

The other lightweight strap belongs to Pacman?s June 28 opponent, WBC ruler David Diaz.
