ONE ON ONE WITH GLENN DONAIRE

GLENN ?The Filipino Bomber? Donaire expressed his readiness to give the Philippines its sixth world title a little over two weeks from now.

In an interview with www.sportsnews.ph, Donaire said he?s been training diligently the last couple of weeks and that he is ready to give International Boxing Federation (IBF) light flyweight champion Ulisses Solis a run for his money. Donaire, older brother of current IBF flyweight champion Nonito, will battle Solis in a 12-round title fight on May 17 in Aguascalinetes, Mexico.

Donaire, 28, won his last fight as he decisioned Brazilian Jose Albuquerque inside eight rounds February of this year in Reno, Nevada.

Donaire (17-3-1, 9 KO’s) hopes to avenge the losses of compatriots Rodel Mayol and Bert Batawang who both lost by knockouts to Solis (26-1-2, 20 KO’s) last year.

A native of General Santos City and now based in San Leandro, California, Donaire lost a 6th round technical decision verdict to Vic Darchinyan in his only world title bout last October 2006.

Donaire said making the 108 limit will not be a problem as it is actually his regular weight.

?I now weigh 115. I just had no choice but to fight in the flyweight and super flyweight before because it is hard to get a fight below 112,?said Donaire.

The Donaire brothers are eyeing to become the first Filipino siblings to hold world crowns at the same time.

Current world bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa and older brother Dodie Boy are the only Filipino siblings to reign as two-division world champions with the latter capturing belts in the junior flyweight and flyweight divisions back in the 80?s.

The Donaires are hoping to bring home both the IBF 108 and 112 crowns, the same belts held by the older Penalosa who also holds the distinction of becoming the very first Filipino to capture two division world diadems.

Currently the country is a proud homeland to five world champions namely Penalosa (bantamweight), Donaire (Flyweight), minimum weights Donnie Nietes and Florante Condes and the biggest star of them all Manny Pacquiao (super featherweight).
