SAN ANTONIO, Texas—International Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion Manny Pacquiao had his share of fans on Thursday when a big crowd of banner-waving Filipinos trooped to the press conference for his big fight Saturday with Marco Antonio Barrera.
Cheering and laughing loudly and filling the La Villita Assembly Hall here, the Filipinos’ unexpected appearance brought a sparkle back to the eyes of Pacquiao who, US sportswriters say, has the respect of boxing experts but not the attention of casual sports fans.
