American Devin Haney is the undisputed lightweight champion of the world at just 23 after winning unanimously on points.
Blessed with a phenomenal jab, George Kambosos Jr could barely lay a blow on Haney whose feet and evasion were too good for the Australian.
Haney won 116-112, 116-112, 118-110.
The result means Haney is the first lightweight fighter to take home the WBA, IBF, WBO and WBC belts — and the youngest in history.
Kambosos Jr. does have a rematch clause, with the sequel to take place once again in Australia.
The Australian said he would learn from the defeat, but some don’t think he should step inside the ring with Haney again, with many believing the American was on a different level.
“He just boxed his game,” Kambosos said.
“He moved, he boxed, he didn’t really want to come to the fight too much but that’s his game. I give him respect. I’m going to change a few things and get him back at the end of this year.”
After a “conservative” start, Kambosos landed a big right-hand shot on Haney in the second round.
But very quickly the American got on top and asserted his boxing intelligence with his impressive jab that is continually landing in Sunday’s lightweight world title fight at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.
