AFTER getting humiliated by World Boxing Organization junior featherweight champion Daniel Ponce de Leon last yer, Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista has never been the same but now he is slowly returning to his former self with a string of victories in his recent battles.
Since his first defeat at the hands of de Leon, a first round KO, Bautista is slowly rising to the top after winning his campaigns.
Bautista was impressive in his last bout, winning against Mexican Genaro Camargo in the second round after decking him twice in the first
ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer said that a rematch with de Leon is the direction that they are looking at for Bautista but he needs to learn more to avoid a repeat of what happened in their last encounter.
?That?s our ultimate direction for ?Boom Boom? to fight Daniel Ponce de Leon but not in his next few fights this year but after a year or two. He needs to have more experience,? Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday.
Aldeguer also believes that a rematch with the Mexican is what the people long to see and is also what Bautista is aching to do.
?A lot of people want it and Boom-Boom wants it. It will be good for the fans and for Boom Boom,? said Aldeguer.
Even de Leon?s camp is looking for a rematch with the Bohol native.
But Aldeguer needs to assess Bautista first if he is ready to step in the ring again with the Mexican champion.
?We?ll see where he?s at in his next fight. We?re planning to let him fight in the US after his fight in July,?
Aldeguer is planning to let Bautista fight on July 22 in his hometown for the Sandugo festival.
