I am excited about getting the opportunity to answer your questions. I will do my best to answer them as best as I can. If I don’t know an answer, I’ll try to dig it up for you. This week’s mailbag is littered with Pacquiao questions, a few Cotto questions, and a lot of boxing questions in general.

Is Shaw allowing Donaire to be somewhat a free agent? Shaw allowed him to fight in Dubai under a different promotion which eventually got canceled.
Donaire’s two recent fights were under Shaw promotion, but after Donaire’s outburst he hasn’t fought anyone for a long time. Did Shaw even consider him as an undercard for last Saturday’s showtime fights. He was an undercard for the other Tarver’s fight(his last fight) when he beat Maldonado.
Donaire’s father is even calling out a fight with Montiel…. who’s a Top Rank fighter. Arum dislikes Shaw…..so to allow one of Shaw’s fighter to fight one of his fighter is highly unlikely ( especially when it’s a risky fight) So why is the Donaire team shopping itself around like this now.

When Nonito Donaire was jumping up and down screaming about bad seating for his family, and unfair hotel treatment it really pissed Gary Shaw off. Shaw informed me that Donaire got the same exact treatment as everyone else did, and that includes the other world champions that were on the same card that night. Donaire according to Shaw was treated no better, no worse than anyone else that night. It takes me back to the old saying, Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. As far as I know, Donaire is still under contract with Shaw.

I am a fan of yours, though this is my first time to write. I read all of your articles. Mabuhay! I’ve read somewhere that after David Diaz, Nate Campbell will be the next opponent for Pacquiao. What do you think about it? After seeing the Juan Diaz vs Campbell tiff, I think Campbell will be a very dangerous foe for Pacquiao. To tell you the truth, the fight with Juan was the first time I saw Campbell fight and before the fight I thought he never stood a chance of winning. Because I think that if he can take all the punches of Juan then most probably he can take Pacquiao’s, then we will have the same result. Thanks in advance.

I spoke to Freddie Roach last night and he talked about an agreement that had been reached for a Manny Pacquiao vs David Diaz fight next. After that fight, Roach told me that a Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton fight is what they want next. Roach went on to say that if it happens, that fight will more than likely take place in England. The way that Nate Campbell destroyed Juan Diaz, I’m not sure that anybody wants that guy anytime soon. We’ll see!
Hi Brad thanks for doing this. My name is Ralph. I go by the name of Lifer on PacLand. My questions would be:
1) Can you give me a detailed info as far as what consists Manny’s conditioning workout i.e. (miles he run from the beginning of training to onset and to the final weeks, does he do weights?, any unusual exercises? duration on the heavy/speed bag, shadowboxing etc. etc. whatever you can think of )
2) Do Manny’s wins have anything to do more with his physical skills or does he effectively apply his team’s strategy for him in the ring?
3) There is a theory that Manny has passed his prime, thus, explaining his decreased total punches as evident in his last fights. Do you think there is any truth to this or is it only a matter of “changing his style” by Team Pacquiao?
4) Does Manny own a CA driving license and drives himself to the gym? What kind of cars does he own? What kind of cars does Freddie Roach own?
5) How many world champions are trained by Freddie Roach

Manny runs in the mornings before it gets too hot. How far? I’m not sure, but I’ll find out for you next time I get Roach on the horn. Shoot me an email next week, and I’ll get you an answer. Manny does do some unusual workouts though. When I was in Los Angeles last, I saw his team smacking him in the stomach with a broom handle. Getting those abs toughened up I guess. Concerning Manny’s natural skills. To me, he’s a lot natural, and then Roach injects a game plan in there as well. When I was in Los Angeles last, Manny was hitting the heavy bag, and the entire gym came to a stop to watch him. PACMAN can BANG!

Why was Joe Louis so good?
Joe:
I have my own reasons why I thought he was so good. When you look at his record, that’s one thing. But to me what made him so special was not so much what he did in the ring, it was WHEN he was doing it. Joe had to deal with the racism of the time, and then oh yea, throw in a world war. When he fought Max Schmeling in 1936 he had the entire country on his back, NO PRESSURE! I spoke to Lou Duva one time and he told me that he was in the locker room after the Louis vs Marciano fight, and watched both guys in tears because of the mad respect that they had for one another.
