FORMER IBF Pan Pacific and Commonwealth super-lightweight champion Fatai ?Kid Dynamite? Onikeke has left Australia and returned to his native Lagos, Nigeria after a brutal beating from Filipino Ranee Ganoy.
Onikeke?s Australian trainer and promoter Murray Thomson said he had finalised his agreement with the hard punching Nigerian because he appeared to have lost his edge.
He said Onikeke, 25, hadn?t been as dedicated in the gym since his gruelling seventh round stoppage at the hands of Ganoy on the Thomson show at Darebin on September 15, 2006.
“He just lost interest and focus after the Ganoy fight,?? Thompson said.
In his final Australian appearance Onikeke lost his IBF crown when was clearly outpointed by Thailand?s Somchai Nakbalee over 12 rounds on October 12, 2007 at Fort Knox.
Onikeke was listless and stood in his corner between rounds.
He carried a broken jaw for at least 10 rounds of the fight.
World-renowned matchmaker Samson Lewkowicz has vowed to get Ganoy a world title fight despite the cancellation of the Filipino slugger?s April 18 bout with Ghana?s Sugar Ray Narh.
