Marcial battles Hart

Eumir Marcial is so obsessed about winning his second professional fight in style that talks about the stint in the Hanoi Southeast Asian (SEA) Games hasn’t been discussed yet by his team.

The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist is slated to face Isaiah Hart on 9 April at The Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas, according to MP Promotions head Sean Gibbons.

“I have not spoken directly about that. I know when he came, that was his intention. But I have seen him training like a professional now. He seems to be getting into the more of, like focus on that,” Gibbons said during Tuesday’s online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.

“So, when I get back when he fights on 9th April, we’ll make a decision. We’ll weigh (where) he wants to go and we are here to support whatever decision he makes,” Gibbons added.

Before leaving Manila in late-January, Marcial assured local sports officials that he will rejoin his national team pals right after his second pro fight on American soil to prepare for the 12 to 23 May SEA Games.

Currently, the southpaw Marcial, who officially turned pro in December 2020 in Los Angeles, trains under Javier Capetillo and strength coach Memo Heredia.

Gibbons said Hart, a 30-year-old with a record of 6-2, “is a capable and lanky guy.”

“I have seen Eumir train and spar with world-class guys and I think he will stop this guy (Hart) and we will get very active the rest of the year.”

Marcial, 26, is the defending SEA Games champion.
