Sizzling super-flyweight slugger Vic Darchinyan is in his native Armenia at a training camp preparing for his July 5 IBF showdown with Russian Dmitri Kirilov in Las Vegas. And the Australian-based southpaw wants to defend the title against old rival Nonito Donaire. The Kirilov fight was confirmed this morning between promoter Gary Shaw and Darchinyan?s manager Elias Nasser. Darchinyan is supremely confident of stopping the Freddie Roach-trained Kirilov, who struggled to a draw with Cecilio Santos in New York in his last fight. Darchinyan will do most of his preparation for the fight with trainer Billy Hussein in Sydney before they head to Vegas 10 days before the bout. “Vic is very hungry,?? Nasser told Sydney radio station 2SM today. “There has been a lot of talk that the super division has really heated up with Cristian Mijares and Alexander Munoz fighting to unify the WBC and WBA titles. “Both camps have expressed a desire to fight the winner of Darchinyan-Kirilov and there?s talk of Nonito Donaire fighting Fernado Montiel for the WBO title. “Vic is dying to fight Nonito Donaire again and we are sure he would beat Nonito in a rematch. “The July 5 fight in Las Vegas is almost a year to the day since Vic lost his flyweight title to Donaire and he has been burning for revenge ever since.??
