(CNN Philippines, January 25) — Filipino boxing champion Mark Magsayo is eyeing Mexican fighter Leo Santa Cruz in his first title defense.
The pride of Tacloban said battling Santa Cruz would be a great clash in the ring.
“It will be good to fight him because he’s also strong,” the 26-year-old told CNN Philippines’ Sports Desk Tuesday.
Magsayo won the WBC featherweight belt over the weekend after beating Gary Russell Jr. via majority decision at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Magsayo said he will work harder after his win because it’s tougher to defend a title than to chase it.
“I will double my efforts because it’s harder to defend the title. I will persevere more in my trainings,” he added.
Magsayo kept his immaculate record at 24-0 with 16 knockouts.
