Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J. – In a featherweight clash, Olympian Tugstsogt Nyambayar (12-2-1, 9 KOs) and Sakaria Lukas (25-1-1, 17 KOs), who took the fight on late notice, fought to a ten round split draw.
The scores were 96-94 for Lukas, 96-94 for Nyambayar and 95-95.
Nyambayar came out very fast in the first round. He was throwing a lot of punches and rocked Lukas with a big left hand. The second and third had Nyambayar still in full control. He seemed to stagger Lukas with each hard shot that connected.
Lukas began to press forward and made it very competitive in the fourth. Nyambayar started to pick things up in the fifth, as Lukas continued to rally. In the final minute, Lukas was badly hurt to the body and hung on to recover. The action was a lot closer in the sixth and seventh, with Nyambayar not really pressing the action and Lukas coming on.
Lukas was taking the fight to Nyambayar and seemed to stagger him in the eight. Lukas was going for the upset, with the more effective shots landing. There was even a legit knockdown by Lukas, when he landed a hard job to the chin, but it was ruled as a slip by the referee.
The ninth was close and could have gone either way. Nyambayar stepped it up in the tenth, with a higher output of punches and better connects.
