Juan Manuel Marquez is set to arrive in the Philippines on Sunday morning (Saturday night in the US), just hours before a big boxing event featuring Gerry Penalosa takes place at the historic Araneta Coliseum. Marquez, who dropped a 12-round split decision to Pacquiao last March 15 in Las Vegas, will be joined in the trip by Jaime Quintana, the 34-year-old counter-puncher’s adviser. Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) vice-president Eric Gomez said Marquez will be on the same Philippine Airlines flight that trainer Freddie Roach took in Los Angeles. Gomez said GBP is keen in seeing Marquez and Pacquiao go at it for the third time but it doesn’t look like the the 29-year-old Filipno lefty is interested in locking horns with the crafty Marquez. “If Manny doesn’t fight Juan Manuel again, it’s because Manny doesn’t want to and I think that’s the way it is,” said Gomez, stressing that it is not Top Rank head Bob Arum who decides who Pacquiao chooses to face. Pacquiao is slated to battle David Diaz on June 28 in Las Vegas. There’s going to be tension at ringside since Pacquiao is also attending the fight.
