Fighters make weight; Marquez to watch fight

MANILA?Gerry Pe?alosa and Ratanachai Sor Vorapin easily made the weight in yesterday?s official weigh-in of the world bantamweight championship set this morning at the Araneta Coliseum.

Both Penalosa and Vorapin made the 118-lb limit, making today?s 12-round world title fight a potentially explosive battle.

?Ready na. I can?t wait. I want to finish this so I can look forward to big fights with anyone,? said Pe?alosa who hastily left the area after the proceedings held at the Cinemaplex of the Gateway Mall.

Vorapin, 31, was actually 1/2 pound over but just needed to urinate to make the limit the next time he climbed the scale.

?Someone is sure to go down and this is going to be a good fight,? said Vorapin?s trainer Jojo Palacios who is a Filipino now based in Thailand.

Vorapin just made the thumbs up sign when asked about his thoughts with his rematch versus his one-time Filipino tormentor.

What will probably be an equally explosive undertaking will actually happen outside of the ring as dethroned superfeatherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico confirmed his trip to the Philippines and is set to arrive at 5 a.m. today.

?He confirmed to us last night he is on his way. We?re very excited about this event,? said Golden Boy Promotions COO David Itskowitch of Marquez, who lost a bitter 12-round split verdict to Manny Pacquiao last month.

Pacquiao is also expected to be at ringside to cheer on the Filipino warriors and the protagonists presence at the arena is sure to steal some of the action from the fighters.

Marquez, who got his title from Marco Antonio Barrera before losing it to Pacquiao, has repeatedly said he deserved to win the match and has challenged Pacquiao to a rematch.

However, Pacquiao said he is setting his sights on bigger things and even turned down a $6 million offer from Golden Boy Promotions. (ML from PR)
