Manny Pacquiao is getting ready for David Diaz, and he?s hoping that the lightweight champion from the United States is doing just the same.
?Tell him to get ready, too,? said Pacquiao over the phone yesterday as he looked forward to his June 28 bout with Diaz, the WBC champion, at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
It?s been almost three weeks since Pacquiao defeated Juan Manuel Marquez via a close split decision, and was crowned the new WBC super-featherweight champion.
Pacquiao suffered a very nasty cut over his right eye during that fight, and it needed 18 stitches to close. For a while, the cut has threatened to delay the Diaz bout.
But now that the wound has healed, Pacquiao said it?s time to get ready.
?The final details are being ironed out. But everything seems okay for the June 28 fight. My wound has healed faster than expected and I?ve started preparing for the fight,? he said.
Pacquiao is in Gen. Santos City, catching up on his studies, which took a backseat when he trained two months in Los Angeles for the Marquez rematch.
?I?ve started jogging in the morning. I?ve stayed in shape since I came back from the US. And later this month, it?s back to training in Los Angeles,? said Pacquiao.
