Pinoy superstar Manny Pacquiao visits Cebu today, two weeks after he wrested the WBC super-featherweight crown with a very close win over Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas.
Wakee Salud, boxing promoter and a friend of the boxer, yesterday confirmed that Pacquiao will fly to Cebu today to be with his fans and supporters from the Queen City of the south.
Cebu has a special place in the heart of Pacquiao. For his match against Marco Antonio Barrera last October, he even trained there for more than a month before heading to Los Angeles.
?It?s a sure thing that Pacquiao will be coming over tomorrow (today), but we don?t know what time he will arrive because he still has to adjust with his other schedule,? said Salud.
Salud said Pacquiao will bring along with him his wife Jinkee and their three children. They will stay at the five-star Shangri-La Hotel in Mactan where Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza meet with Pacquiao regarding their plan to invite the boxer to play the role of Lapu-Lapu in the re-enactment of ?Kadaugan sa Mactan? on April 27.
On Monday, Salud said Pacquiao will pay a courtesy call on Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia and Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osme?a.
Then Pacquiao will grace a press conference at the Marriott Hotel arranged by Cebu City Councilor Sylvan ?Jack? Jakosalem.
?Cebu is one of places that Pacquiao really loves to visit. Pacquiao wants to personally thank all the Cebuanos for their all-out support to him,? said Salud.
Pacquiao was in Manila yesterday, playing basketball with a group of PBA superstars and his friends from the military at the Philippine Army gymnasium in Fort Bonifacio.
Pacquiao played alongside Army Chief, Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano, and they both scored eight points despite failing to lead their team past the PBA group led by shooter Allan Caidic.
Pacquiao wore jersey 106 during the game held in celebration of the Philippine Army?s 111th founding aanniversary.
Among those who spent time on the court were Alvin Patrimonio, Chito Loyzaga, Pido Jarencio, Hector Calma, Jimmy Santos on the PBA side, and Lt. Gen. Rodrigo Maclang, Lt. Gen. Victor Ibrado, Lt. Gen. Leopoldo Maligalig and Defense Sec. Gilbert Teodoro.
