What is everyone looking forward to in the next year of boxing? I have a few things that I’m very interested in seeing:
-The rematch between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao. One of the top fights of 2004 ended in an inconclusive draw.
-If Arturo Gatti beats Jesse James Leija, and Floyd Mayweather disposes of Henry Brusseles, we should be getting a superfight between the two in April. Gatti will have a tough time with Leija and a near impossible time with Mayweather. If he could ever find a way to beat Mayweather, that would be one of the greatest boxing stories ever told.
-If James Toney beats Monte Barrett when he returns from his bicep injury, he will be the mandatory for Vitali Klitschko. With Don King controlling most of the heavyweight landscape, Klitshcko will likely give Toney a shot, since he is not with King. I think that is a very intriguing match, with Toney being a live dog.
-The return of Fernando Vargas. He has always been one of my favorites, and he is due back in April.
-Kermit Cintron is on a collision course with Antonio Margarito. That fight will probably happen in the summer of 2005. That is a definate scorcher, and one of the best fights that can be made in all of boxing.
-There are also alot of fighters who had big years in 2004 that I want to see follow up in 2005. These include: Diego Corrales, Juan Diaz, Winky Wright, Rafael Marquez, Rocky Juarez, and Vivian Harris.
