Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum is throwing his full support behind Manny Pacquiao’s bid in the 2022 national elections.
The Top Rank chief, who promoted the Filipino boxing star for more than a decade, said his company is backing Pacquiao all the way.
“All of us at Top Rank support Manny. He is a man of integrity. He will be a great President for all the people of the Philippines,” Arum, 89, a Harvard-educated lawyer, said.
Back in 2010, Arum had begun harping about a possible run for the presidency of Pacquiao, the only boxer in history to ever win eight world titles in as many weight classes.
Arum is not the only US personage rooting for Pacquiao’s quest in the May 2022 elections.
Freddie Roach, another Hall of Fame inductee, said he is “extremely proud and excited to hear of Manny’s run for President in the Philippines for 2022.”
“All the best to you. Truly the fighting pride of the Philippines and the People’s Champ,” Roach added in his social media post.
Pacquiao and Arum’s promotional contract ended in 2017,
During his stint with Top Rank, Pacquiao scored many of his greatest victories, most notably against Oscar De La Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito and Tim Bradley.
