Counterstrike: Casamayor stops Katsidis!

?Y?all musta forgot!? Those words may have been made famous by Roy Jones Jr., but Joel Casamayor just served up a triumphant reminder that he is still very much championship caliber at lightweight. Joel Casamayor stopped Michael Katsidis with a violent counter punch in the tenth round in a tremendous fight and did it after climbing out of press row. The bout started out violently with Casamayor scoring two first-round knockdowns, only to have the younger challenger come roaring back. In Round 6, Katsidis knocked Casamayor out of the ring, but the gallant Cuban gold medalist climbed back in to beat the count. After a mid-fight momentum shift that saw the younger, stronger Katsidis come back strong, a picturesque left-hand counter in the tenth brutalized Katsidis, hurting him badly. After taking a good look in his eyes the referee allowed him to continue, but it was a moot point. Casamayor punished Katsidis until the fight was stopped, handing the younger fighter his first professional loss. With the win, Casamayor retained the Ring title and reaffirmed his stake in the lightweight championship.
