Envy unbeaten Filipino featherweight Mark Magsayo for being told about a chance of a lifetime.
No, Magsayo is not getting a world title shot.
Not yet.
But the magnitude of what’s to come should have the same importance as that of an elusive crack at a world crown.
Magsayo, who has been living and training in the Los Angeles area for almost a year now, will see action in the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s clash with Errol Spence on 21 August in Las Vegas.
Sean Gibbons, who heads the Pacquiao-owned MP Promotions, said Magsayo will get his wish in August.
Just before the lockdown last year, Gibbons brought Magsayo to Pacquiao to formalize his signing with the promotional company.
Magsayo, 25, holds a 22-0 record with 15 knockouts and has fought twice since relocating to the United States from the Philippines in June 2020.
Fighting underneath a Pacquiao headliner has been a coveted experience for Filipino fighters given its wide viewership and deep interest.
The Pacquiao-Spence world welterweight title showdown will likely wind up at the MGM Grand, where the Filipino eight-division champion has fought 15 times since making his American debut in June 2001.
