The boxing matches leading to the main event of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez main header Sunday did not prove to be a crime deterrent after all.
Because unlike the previous weekend matches of the Filipino boxing icon against his Mexican foes when police failed to list down crime incidents, at least one case was reported in the metropolis while fight fans were glues to their television sets and the big screens.
ABS-CBN News reported that eight armed robbers struck in Mandaluyong City, victimizing passengers of a bus at the corner of EDSA and Shaw Boulevard around 1 p.m.
Police tried to intercept the robbers when the bus reached the Q-Mart in Quezon City but the suspects had escaped.
Investigators recovered a bullet casing from a .45 pistol inside the bus.
Aside from the bus robbery incident, police said the situation was generally peaceful in Metro Manila.
Pacquiao snatched the WBC super featherweight belt from Marquez during the fight Saturday night in Las Vegas (the undercard fights and main event were aired starting Sunday morning in Manila).
