The job is not done for reigning Filipino International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas.
After his successful ninth title defense at the expense of Mexican Jonathan Rodriguez, Ancajas bared that he and his team is set to stay for a while in the United States to help his compatriot Eumir Marcial for his Olympic preparations.
Marcial has been training with Ancajas in Los Angeles since October last year, doing light sparring. They are both under the MP Promotions of Filipino boxing great and Senator Manny Pacquiao.
“We are still going to help my compatriot Eumir in his preparation for the Olympics. Today, what’s important is we defended my title and we will help Eumir get the gold in the Olympics,” said Ancajas in his post-fight presser on Sunday.
It appears that Ancajas will help Marcial until the first week of May only, as Marcial is set to reunite with the Philippine boxing team for a training camp in India.
“We probably will return around the first week (of May) in the Philippines. There’s really no need to do another fight because it’s really about Tokyo,” said MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons in a previous interview with The Manila Times.
