LAS VEGAS –His name is ?War A Week,? a name earned by putting on thousands of sensational bouts at the old Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles when he was the ace matchmaker for the legendary ?Dragon Lady,? Aileen Eaton.
Eaton made Hillary Clinton look like a meek and mild school marm. Her marching orders to Chargin were to make lion against tiger, beast and beats and it was strictly survival of the fittest in the Eaton Boxing Jungle. Eaton’s thrust was it did not matter which fighter, that the paying customers who put their asses in the seats once a week had to be the real winners and the only way to do that was to put on as many wars as possible.
His nickname was never ?Sellout Don? or ?Don he Shill.? So, although he is nicely compensated along with wife Lorraine as consultants to Golden Boy (I wouldn?t say senior consultants because Lorraine would slit my throat), if Don thought GBP?s Juan Manuel Marquez would not successfully defend his WBC super featherweight title against Pinoy idol Manny Pacquiao in their rematch Saturday night, Don would keep his trap shut.
But he?s not silent, not at all.
He?s feeling what I am starting to feel, he is smelling what I am beginning to smell, the smell of upset in the Clark County air.
Over at The Palms, Megamanny is a minus $2.30 favorite while the Mexican ringmaster and counterpuncher supreme is plus $1.85. But DC, Don Chargin, thinks the odds makers are missing the familiar scent of a huge upset.
?If it goes into the fifth and sixth rounds, I see Juan Manuel taking over the fight and starting to frustrate Manny. Don?t get me wrong, Manny is a great warrior. But their first round will their 13th round together and I think Marquez knows Manny inside out. I think Juan Manuel has a good game plan that will take him to a surprise victory. But it won?t be a surprise to me or to Lorraine because we know both fighters and we know what Juan Manuel is capable of.?
?War A Week? has spoken.
Do you smell what he smells?
