A rousing send-off party for Tokyo Olympics-bound Eumir Marcial is in the pipeline.
The affair won’t be an ordinary event.
It’s going to be one big night where celebrities and other A-listers are expected to attend.
What better way to send Marcial off to his Olympic gold medal quest than to include him underneath a Manny Pacquiao headliner.
“If the good senator gets to fight sometime in April (of 2021), we’ll put Eumir and it’ll serve as his send-off party for Tokyo,” Sean Gibbons, the MP Promotions chief told Daily Tribune.
The Olympics take center stage from 23 July to 9 August and by the time the lefty Marcial flies to the Japanese capital, Gibbons believes he would have already racked up about a couple of pro fights and possibly one buildup amateur slugfest.
Marcial is booked to make his pro debut on 16 December against Andrew Whitfield in a four-round middleweight duel at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
Including Marcial in a Pacquiao main event should be easy since the Zamboanga City puncher is under contract with the Pacquiao-owned MP Promotions.
Marcial is in the final and most crucial phase of his preparation for his very first pro bout under the watchful eyes of Hall of Fame cornerman Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.
Gibbons is expecting Marcial to bowl over the rugged Whitfield with ease although the Idaho native should manage to get in a few licks in the early goings.
Still, Gibbons insists Marcial will get the job done in style.
“Freddie’s been totally focused in training Eumir,” he said.
Pacquiao, who turns 42 on 17 December, hasn’t fought since stunning Keith Thurman, ten years his junior, in July 2019 in Las Vegas.
Among those being looked at possible Pacquiao rivals include MMA icon Conor McGregor, Errol Spence, Terence Crawford and Mikey Garcia.
The Middle East, where the coronavirus isn’t as prevalent compared to the United States and Europe and some parts of Asia, is a target venue given the availability of interested parties that have the financial muscle to pay the Filipino star and his prospective foe.
