BARBOSA OUTPOINTS SAUCEDO TO WIN WBO INT'L WELTER TITLE

Undefeated welterweight Arnold Barbosa Jr., kept his clean slate by defeating Alex Saucedo by unanimous decision on the co-feature of the Loma vs Lopez unified lightweight championship at The Bubble at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas Saturday night. Judge Max De Luca and Patricia Morse Jarman had it 97-92 while Dave Moretti had ti 96-93 all in favor of Barbosa.

Barbosa (25-0-0, 10KOs) and Saucedo (30-2-0, 19KOs) fought inside most of the night throwing a barrage of punches at each other but it was clear that Barbosa landed the harder punches that got him the nod of the judges.

Saucedo scored a knockdown in the 7th round courtesy with a left cross. The knockdown was initailly ruled a slip by Referee Celestino Ruiz but after a review by Joe Cortez, the official designated by the Nevada Athletics Commission implementing the new rule to review unclear calls, Cortez ruled it a knockdown. What happened was Barbosa, backing up, his foot got entangled with Saucedo's foot and he was off balance when he was hit by Saucedo's left that caused his falling to the canvas.

Barbosa, with an international title in his resume, now positions himself to challenge for the WBO world title currently held by Terence Crawford. Saucedo, who failed in his first world title fight against Maurci Hooker in 2018, suffered his second loss.
