Pagara taps Baldago as new trainer

ALBERT Pagara has teamed up with former ALA Gym coach Joseph Baldago for the next chapter of his boxing career.

“Joseph Baldago, my brother’s (Jason Pagara) trainer at the ALA Gym, is now my trainer,” Pagara told SunStar Cebu.

Baldago has already started whipping Pagara into shape at the Phil-Aust Gym. They are currently trimming down his weight, which ballooned to 167 pounds, due to the long layoff.

“I think I’m now 140,” said Pagara. “I started at 167 pounds. We have not started sparring. I’ll get back in shape first before we will be having sparring.”

Pagara’s last fight was on Aug. 17, 2019. He destroyed Thai Ratchanon Sawangsoda at the Ormoc Superdome in Ormoc City.

ADVERTISEMENT Pagara will still campaign at 122 pounds, in which he’s currently rated No. 7 in the World Boxing Organization.

He recently signed with MTK Global and D4G Promotions following the closure of ALA Promotions. He’ll most likely make his debut under his new promoters in January 2021 in Dubai.

“I was supposed to fight in December, but I moved it maybe in January,” he said. “I’m so excited to return because I have not fought for more than a year.”

Pagara is one of the ALA Boys that became free agents after the closure of ALA Gym and ALA Promotions in August.

Pagara and four-division world champion Donnie Nietes signed with the same promoters, while Melvin Jerusalem, Jeo Santisima, KJ Cataraja and Esneth Domingo inked a pact with Sanman Promotions and Zip Management. Jonas Sultan, on the other hand, is now in the US after signing with ZC Kings Promotions. (EKA)
