Pacman is heavy favorite

LOS ANGELES ? Highrollers and plain bettors rooting for Manny Pacquiao wouldn?t like this piece of news from Las Vegas.

Reports from Vegas, site of Saturday night?s rematch between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez, reveal that the Filipino has assumed the role of the overwhelming favorite going into his historic stab at the Mexican?s World Boxing Council (WBC) super-featherweight crown.

Latest odds list Pacquiao as -200, while Marquez as +160.

Which means a bet of 0 for Pacquiao would have a return of $ 100, while a wager of $ 100 for Marquez would have a return of $ 160.

“In cockfighting it?s already not advisable to bet when it (odds) is 10-6,” said renowned cocker Tony Antonio, who is here with father Patrick, another top breeder, to watch Pacquiao at ringside at the Mandalay Bay.

When it was formally announced that Pacquiao and Marquez are going to face off last November, the Filipino opened as -165, while Marquez was +130.

With Pacquiao insisting that he is training like never before for Marquez, bettors have steadily put their money on him and it is being predicted that going into the final days before the fight, the odds would tilt even more for Pacquiao.

“I don?t care about the odds,” said Pacquiao on Sunday at his apartment. “I just have to come up wth a very good performance.”

Since battering Marco Antonio Barrera into submission in Nov. 2003, Pacquiao has never been tagged as the underdog and even when he went up for the first time with the legendary Erik Morales in March 2005–a fight that Morales on points–Pacquiao has always been labeled as the favorite.
