But this latest assignment is totally different.
Ken Pery, a 39-year-old bouncer has been hired to beef up the security of popular boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, who arrived in Manila yesterday morning from Davao in preparation for his Saturday night bout with Fahsan 3K Battery of Thailand at The Fort in Taguig.
A member of a group called The Professional Bouncers, Pery is about 5-8 or 5-9 but is as beefy as somebody who vying for honors in the Mr. Olympia. Yesterday morning, he was already in the office of Rod Nazario, the business manager of Pacquiao.
Pery was tapped by the promoters of the Dec. 11 slugfest to follow Pacquiao around until fight day although the champ?s entourage is only already composed of the same cast of characters.
Since it is already fight week, Pacquiao would be moving around in the city a lot and Pery is confident he will be able to get the job done.
Yesterday afternoon, Pacquiao appeared in a television program on channel 2. Today, it?s going to be extra light for Pery since Pacquiao would spend the rest of the afternoon training at the Wild Card Gym on Presidents Ave. in BF Homes, Para?aque.
The next day, a public press preview is going to be held also at the Wild Card with the major players of Saturday?s big card in attendance, including 3K Battery, who is flying in from Bangkok today.
On Thursday afternoon, Murad Muhammad, Pacquiao?s US promoter, is holding a press conference at the Discovery Suites in Ortigas Center, and late Friday morning, the official weigh-in will be staged at the Pier One Bar.
Meanwhile, Bobby Pacquiao won?t be able to make a mandatory defense of his Philippine superfeatherweight throne against Dexter Delada underneath the Pacquiao-Fahsan bout after his right hand injury worsened.
Delada will now face Arnel Porras in a special 10-round super-feather encounter, making the 10-round super-fly brawl between Z Gorres and Chaisong Distar of Thailand as the main supporting fight.
Nicknamed “Dinamita”, Delada is a prot?g? of Wakee Salud of Cebu and should find it tough to take out Porras, who has been one of Manny Pacquiao?s sparring partners the last three weeks in Davao.
