US-BASED Pinoy pugs Rey Perez and Recky Dulay look to upset their opponents on Monday, Sept. 7, 2020, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Perez faces off against former Olympian Batyr Akhmedov in a 10-round fight.
The 29-year-old Perez, a very experienced fighter, tipped the scales at 140.6 pounds, while Akhmedov weighed in at 140.4 pounds.
Perez hasn’t seen action for more than a year now. His last fight was back on Jan. 19, 2019, where he lost to Manny Pacquiao spar mate George Kambosos Jr. by unanimous decision.
Perez has a knack of spoiling promising prospects with upset wins over Christian Gonzalez, twice, and Robert Marroquin.
The 29-year-old Akhmedov, who competed in the 2016 Olympics, is coming off a unanimous decision defeat against Mario Barrios in a world title fight for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight belt last Sept. 28, 2019.
Perez is 24-11 with eight knockouts, while Akhmedov is 7-1 with six knockouts/
On the other hand, Dulay takes on Cuban Leduan Barthelemy in a six-rounder.
The 26-year-old Dulay hasn’t had much success in his US campaign, in which he’s 2-6 and lost his last five fights. His last fight was a unanimous decision defeat to Henry Lebron last Feb. 28. Despite his recent slump, Dulay also has a knack for scoring upsets after the shocking third round knockout of up-and-comer Jaime Arboleda in 2017.
Barthelemy suffered his first career defeat in 2019. The 29-year-old Cuban was stopped by Eduardo Ramirez in the fourth round in Las Vegas.
Dulay is 11-8 with eight knockouts, while Barthelemy is 15-1-1 with seven knockouts. (EKA)
