Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury will have the opportunity to exercise a trilogy fight clause should they lose their eagerly-anticipated rematch. The duo will renew their hostilities early on Sunday morning at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The WBC heavyweight title will be the spoils for the victor of this weekend’s showdown, which promises to be one of the biggest fights in the division in recent years.
The pair’s mega-money clash will be a rematch of their 2018 classic, which ended in a controversial split draw.
And according to Fury’s promoter Frank Warren, we could very well see a trilogy fight later this year if the loser of the contest exercises the rematch clause that’s in their contract.
“The loser has 30 days to call on the rematch and that has to be accepted,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Warren believes Wilder vs Fury 2 is the “most anticipated heavyweight fight” in over 20 years, saying: “It’s a fantastic fight.
“A big puncher against a consummate boxer. It’s a bit like Muhammad Ali v George Foreman years ago – similar styles.
“What’s important about this fight is that they are both at the top of their game. It’s not like the young guy fighting the old guy, passing on the baton.
“These guys are at the top of their game and it doesn’t get any better than this if you are a boxing fan.”
