8 reasons not to miss ?Now or Never?

1. Redemption is the mission? You probably are the neighborhood-boxing guru and you love to pontificate about your favorite boxer to anybody who cares to listen.

From time to time, you eavesdrop on those boxing forums on the net, relishing the anonymity it brings. And oh, you probably read this column a lot too.

But the macho dude that you are, you inexplicably decided to plunk some serious moolah a few weeks ago on that Piolo Pascual-Sam Milby concert. Ha ha ha!

C?mon champ, you can?t go out like this. Go for some redemption and drive away those horrific images of that coo-some twosome. Get your butt to Waterfront Hotel on Feb. 2

2. It?s reasonably priced? This is as big as it gets, as far as boxing events in Cebu City go. Z Gorres is on the cusp of boxing superstardom. If he beats Vic Darchinyan, we might as well rewrite the boxing alphabet and let it begin with Z.

Vic Darchinyan is a boxing superstar on a mad rush for redemption. I personally never expected this tough talking Armenian to make it to Cebu. But he?s coming here and he?s bringing that deadly left hand that has leveled 23 of 29 opponents.

If you missed the Gorres-Montiel fight last year, now is your chance to be part of history.

3. Yo? da man!?Treat your honeybunch to something different on a Saturday night. Movies? Bars? Live acoustic bands.. That?s sooo 2007. Haven?t you heard? Watching live fights while sipping your favorite drink is the new rave.

Impress your creampuff with your knowledge of the fight game. But before you go, load up on the necessary info by visiting www.boxrec.com .

4.See and be seen? It?s not just a boxing match, it?s a spectacle. So expect the local denizens of celebritydom to converge. And because, it?s a big international event for the sport, expect a horde of foreign media personalities to cover it.

If you fancy yourself the next-big-something-waiting to be discovered, then better position yourself strategically for the cameras. Who knows you might go the way of Pamela Anderson who was supposedly discovered after a cameraman picked her out from the crown and zoomed her image on the big screen.

I also heard they?re shooting a prequel for Star Strek and are scouting around for someone to play Mr. Spock?s long lost twin brother. So flash those pearly whites!

5.Expand your ecosphere?Fancy yourself to be a hopelessly homebody? This is the best way to conquer inertia. Watching the fight is a guarantee to kick start an adrenaline rush on that mushy physique brought about by your usual Saturday night routine of plopping down on your sofa and feeding yourself a steady diet of reality TV.

6.Live is the jive?I have a lot of friends who have never ever seen a live boxing match. I took them to one and they were quite profuse in their praise of the whole experience. Watching it on the tube is like eating canned food while seeing it unfold right before your very eyes is like devouring a thick, juicy fillet mignon. There?s just no comparison.

7.Support your local athletes? In case you have been hiding under a rock since the Erap administration, there has been a resurgence of boxing in our country, precipitated by the rise of Manny Pacquiao to the top of the boxing echelon. With it, came collateral benefits for other boxers. Our country now boasts of several world champions in different classes and they have become a source of inspiration for our youth. Aside from Z, a couple of young upstarts will be strutting their wares on the under-card. Watch the fights and give these kids a reason to continue what they are doing.

8.Round girls? You don?t expect me to believe you actually look at what?s written on those cards, do you?

THE LAST ROUND. It?s on lovely couple Jun-jun and Ana Martinez-Quijano who recently exchanged meaningful ?I dos?. Cheers!
