NOTED American trainer Freddie Roach on Wednesday expressed confidence Manny Pacquiao will be in tip-top shape when the Filipino world boxing champ steps the ring to fight Thai Fahsan 3K Battery on Dec. 11 in Taguig.
“There were distractions, but after I talked to him he’s back on track,” said Roach, who went all the way to Davao City from Los Angeles to personally supervise the training of Pacquiao.
Roach said his boxer looks great and will be in excellent condition come fight night.
Earlier reports said Roach was displeased with the way Pacquiao has been handling his training, particularly at that instance when the boxer slipped out of training camp last week to shoot a TV show with Robin Padilla.
But Roach, a first timer in the Philippines, said Pacquiao is now back in serious training.
On Wednesday afternoon, Roach watched closely as Pacquiao battered two spar mates at the Davao City boxing gym, where a huge crowd of fans and journalists had gathered as early 12 noon.
Roach said they are not taking Fahsan lightly, the reason why he came here to monitor Pacquiao’s training.
“I watched the guy on tapes and he’s a tough boxer. He’s fighting Manny Pacquiao so he must be tough,” Roach said.
Part of Pacquiao’s daily regimen is an early morning jog up the hills of Davao.
Roach is credited for transforming Pacquiao to a mean fighting machine.
