Manny Pacquiao has shot down Keith Thurman?s calls for a rematch, with the Filipino boxing icon?s camp confirming ?we want [Floyd] Mayweather?. The 40-year-old fighting senator took a split decision win against the previously undefeated Thurman in Last Vegas last month, becoming the oldest fighter to win the WBA welterweight title. ?No. Nothing to prove,? Sean Gibbons, the new president of MP Promotions, told the Philippine Star after Thurman called on Pacquiao to ?sign the contract?. The July 20 fight was close, but Pacquiao still handed Thurman his first defeat in 31 fights at the MGM Grand. The didn?t stop the brash American from offering to fly to the Philippines for talks with Pacquiao.
?You know, I got a lot of respect for him. I still think that the fight was nothing more than a draw. You know, I don?t really think that he won the fight,? Thurman told TMZ Sports. ?Where?s the contract, Pac? Sign the contract.? ?He had his shot, game over,? added Gibbons, however, shutting down the idea.
Australian Jeff Horn also said he has some ?unfinished business? with Pacquiao after a controversial decision win against him in 2017, taking Pacquiao?s WBO welterweight title. ?Horn who? Another desperate guy,? said Gibbons, however. ?We want [Floyd] Mayweather.?
Gibbons also said Pacquiao would be open to fighting Mikey Garcia or Danny Garcia early next year. ?But we want Floyd,? he added.
Mayweather beat Pacquiao in their much-hyped mega-bout in 2015, with the Philippines legend hampered by a rotator cuff injury, which required surgery.
?If that fight happens, then it?s probably worth it to do because that would be a big, big, big fight,? Pacquiao?s former long-time promoter Bob Arum told Fighthype.com. ?Manny Pacquiao would win now.?
But Arum believes his former charge would be better suited retiring. ?He got the win [against Keith Thurman], he went out on a big note,? Arum said. ?I would recommend that this is the time for him to hang it up; but listen, he makes his own choices.?
